MEET
LILY HUFF

I love books. I know. I know. It’s nothing revolutionary, but I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here. Since I was a little kid, I have loved reading. Whether the story was about far-off lands, real events, or mysterious findings, I couldn’t seem to get enough. As I’ve gotten older, much hasn’t changed. I still read just about anything I can get my hands on.

While I was in college, I majored in Journalism and minored in English, but I also through myself into any club that would take me. I started working in admissions on The Herd, and I fell in love with it. Meeting people felt so natural, and I loved helping people feel welcome in a new space. I was actively involved in the university’s paper, The Bison, as the News Editor and Social Media Editor for a little bit. I was a Co-Chair of the University Concert Series. During which I helped coordinate the first “It’s Over-Fest,” which brought together multiple organizations across campus and local businesses from the community. Did I mention Colony House as the headliner? If you couldn’t tell, I have never been one to like free time.

During my Summers, I interned for various businesses and grew my work experience outside of University. While working as a Staff Writer and Photographer at the Lincoln County News, I won the OGE Photo of the Month for June 2021. I also won First Place in Feature Story for the Oklahoma Press Association 2021 Better Newspaper Contest. While I dreamed of writing full-time, this helped solidify the idea for me. Subtle plug! I am a freelance photographer, and if you need senior, family, or professional photos taken, feel free to reach out. Anyways, working with The Lincoln County News opened my eyes to the everyday world of Journalism. I still freelance for them when they need someone. (Thank you Brian, you really are the best editor!)

Through everything I have been involved in, I have been pushed outside of my comfort zone in the most remarkable ways. I’ve been able to work with incredible people whom I couldn't have met anywhere else. I have been mentored by professors who genuinely care about their students and have helped to grow not only my career but also as a person.

I’m currently living the dream as a freelance writer and editor. I’m still not used to saying that sentence. I meet with my writers regularly, editing their work and encouraging them, while pursuing my own writing goals. Ghostwriting has been an unexpected joy that has honestly found me. I have the opportunity to blend my love for people and writing into a career I didn’t know I would be able to do. When I really think about it, I find myself realizing life really is a strange and twisted gift.

Thank you if you’ve read this far. I hope I can bring you books, music, and more to fall in love with and share with your friends. Happy reading, friends.
