"Good Will Hunting" Is it worth the watch?

I can’t believe it’s been two months since my last review. First off, my bad guys. Time flies when you focus on other things. Fear not! My focus is back, and I’m ready for another review. Are you? The day has finally come to watch “Good Will Hunting”. My expectations are high tbh. All I’ve heard about Good Will Hunting is that everyone thinks it’s just the most amazing thing ever, and I’ve seen the clip of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon accepting an Oscar for their writing. It’s a sweet clip. So, obviously, my expectations are high.

Let’s talk plot. Ok. Initial thoughts. FUN! The kid doesn’t care that he’s super smart, just wants to have fun with his friends. He just can’t help but solve random math problems. Along the way, he has to deal with his own insecurities and feelings, which are two things he would do just about anything BUT feel. Ok, complex male characters. Also, this movie stars Minnie Driver as a smart woman who doesn’t sacrifice her feminine side for one second. ICONIC. And! Robin Williams as a psychology professor. I see the hype! And. I LIKE IT! (Sorry. I’ve been watching a lot of “Parks and Rec” and I can so clearly hear Chris Treiger's voice in my head. It's insane. I’ll reel it in. If you haven’t watched “Parks and Rec”, WATCH IT. I’ll shamelessly say it is better than “The Office”. I digress.)

What I don’t love about the movie is the pace. I know. It’s just a little slow for me. It is also SOOOOOOOO 90s. I mean. The slow-motion punch scene. I know it’s meant to be serious, but I found it hilarious. I did like the almost handheld camera feel the movie has. Opposed to a hyper-clarified and perfectly shot movie of today, this movie is shot like its characters. Honest. No-fuss. Genuine. Gritty. The color gradient, though. Amazing! And. I was a big fan!

Who was the costume designer? One second. Beatrix Aruna Pasztor. Girl! You crushed it. My favorite designs were worn by Robin Williams. To be completely honest, in my opinion, he made the film. Yes, Matt Damon and Minnie Driver are great, BUT it’s Robin Williams. His portrayal of a grieving, yet somehow hopeful, psychology professor is nothing short of gripping. Did he win an Oscar for this role? HE DID! AS HE SHOULD! Absolutely moving performance. I mean, “I’ve got to see about a girl.” Insane work. It’s that meme of Martin Scorsese. Don’t worry! I’ll add it below.

This may be a shocking take, but I actually probably won’t watch this again. I know! The pace just killed it for me. The extensive scenes of Matt Damon doing math, although I’m sure important, really weren’t the vibe for me. It almost made the movie go by slower, and I just felt like the last thirty minutes really crawled by. That’s just me! Now, the question isn’t: Would I watch it again? The question is: Is it worth the watch? And I do believe it is. If I were to curate the proper vibe to watch the movie, I would wait for the weather to be below 70 degrees, preferably 65. I’d light a fall candle and make a cup of tea. Maybe peppermint? I’d grab my favorite sweatshirt and get ready to be like Kacey Musgraves said, “happy and sad at the same time”.
