Music is a unique way for people to express their feelings and beliefs. Freshman apologetics and Biblical studies double major, Ethan Morris, is using his musical abilities to express himself, and he will be dropping his first album on May 7.

“I am very excited to share these songs that I’ve worked so hard on with everyone! I’m looking forward to positive and negative reactions alike. The release party [has been] a bit stressful to organize, but I’m also very excited to perform,” Morris said. Morris reached out to the University Concert Series to help promote his album after they worked with Jachin McDonald when he released his album.

“I didn’t make it to the last release party for Jachin McDonald, but I heard that it was good. I started listening to his music; it’s inspiring to hear another artist that’s based on campus,” Morris said. While Morris is encouraged by McDonald their albums are distinct in their own right.

“The album is called ‘rose colored’ because it’s about seeing life through different lenses. Whether it’s only seeing life through an intellectual lens and pushing down emotion or going the other way and letting your emotions lead you without giving your actions a second thought, the album is supposed to make the listener question their dispositions in a Christian setting. Ultimately, the album’s order goes from using only [one’s] head, then only [one’s] heart, to repentance for not doing it perfectly, and then to trusting the Lord with it all,” Morris said. While every artist is proud of each of their songs, it is only natural for one to stand out amongst the rest.

“My favorite song on the album is probably the first, called ‘skeptic.’ I liked making it because it’s a different style than I usually try to make. I think I like how dry it sounds if that makes sense,” Morris said. Morris is proud of his unique album and is thrilled for his peers to hear it as well.

“If I had to assign a genre to the album, it would be either alternative or indie. I think it has a very distinct sound and style that I hope people find interesting and engaging. The chords used give it a sound that is distinctly indie in some cases, but there are also some neo-classical and jazz influences that give the songs some flavor,” Morris said.

There will be an album release party in the lower GC on May 6 at 7 p.m. If you have any questions about the album, reach out to Ethan Morris.
